The Motley Fool is a multimedia financial services company founded in 1993 in Alexandria, Virginia, by brothers Tom and David Gardner with the goal of creating the largest investment community on the planet.

The Motley Fool constantly promotes individual investors and shareholder values through its website, books, newspaper column, radio program, television appearances, and subscription newsletter services, which each month reach millions of people.

Shakespeare’s clever fools, who could speak the truth to the monarch without getting their heads chopped off, were the inspiration for the company’s name.

Conclusion

is that “we’ve done really well, and you have, too.” And using that term makes me think of the summer of 1995, when we created and published The Motley Fool Investment Guide, our first book.

Simon & Schuster released it at the beginning of 1996. Then, we went on our first book tour. And we were all debating the book’s subtitle as we were planning to call it “The Motley Fool Investment Guide.”

The title we chose was “How the Fools Beat Wall Street’s Wise Men-and How You Can Too.”
